Here, you can find some of the 2D art I created for the game.
I didn't have any memory limitation. The maps were stored in a 4*4 pixel format. My brother created a tool that went through all those unique bitmaps and stored only the unique ones, checking for repetitions. The game reproduced the map in a multi-scrolling 2D engine.
We also had several parallax scroll layers on the background.
We were able to stream all the data from the hard drive when needed it.
The native screen resolution was 320*200 pixels and 256 colour palette.
I used some photo-realistic textures as paint brushes.
